Notre Dame to the ACC in Everything But Football & Exit Fee Raised to $50M

In a move that will undoubtedly provide the ACC substantially secured its future by encouraging Notre Dame to join in all sports, except football.  Equally as important, Notre Dame agreed to play five football games against conference members.  And perhaps most importantly, the ACC Presidents agreed to raise the exit fee to nearly $50M.  A great day for the ACC, which requires no further commentary from the Confidential!

WOW! Huge move for the ACC…but how will this impact the Orange Bowl? There was speculation that ND would be some kind of preferred bowl partner with the ACC in teh post-BCS era. But if ND is playing 5 conference teams/year then it seems like that scenario is out.

  2. Or maybe not. As long as ND is not part of the ACC, a 10-2 ND team might be a good matchup in that game still. I would expect ND’s schedule to be a blend of teams each year. If they play Wake Forest, Syracuse, Pitt, Miami, and Georgia Tech… they could still play Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Or Va Tech, Clemson. Some years it will still work, in other words.

I read over at Bleacher Report (I think) that the Orange Bowl tie-in was a big factor for Notre Dame.
