Virginia Tech Advances to ACC Baseball Championship

Just moments ago, Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech in the 3:00pm game of the ACC Baseball Championship. The Hokies advance to the finals on Sunday for the first time ever, already boasting more wins in this year’s tournament (3) than they have ever achieved since they joined the conference in 2004. Virginia Tech’s opponent for Sunday’s game is still to be determined, but is likely to be decided tomorrow night in the 7:00pm sellout (standing room only was running out when I left the stadium) tilt between North Carolina and North Carolina State.

The Tar Heels must take care of business tonight against Clemson, who has been already mathematically eliminated from the tournament, if they don’t want to enter tomorrow’s game needing a win. If North Carolina loses tonight, but beats rival NC State, the Tar Heels will still advance to Sunday based off of the head-to-head tie-breaker rules since they would both finish 2-1. If North Carolina wins tonight, but loses tomorrow, NC State would advance based off of the same rules. This is an exciting time for the ACC, which is having one of its best years in recent memory.

  4. Straight from the ACC Baseball Twitter Account!-
After 5 hours and 16 minutes, that’s the game. McCullough works a perfect B-14th and UNC earns the 12-7 marathon win over Clemson #ACCBASE

Now it’s time for the Heels to take care of business tomorrow…I’ll be there, so hopefully, they will…
