Duke defeats Cornell 16-14, secures spot in Finals
The Duke Blue Devils’ offense delivered, and the defense held on to defeat Cornell in Philadelphia on Saturday. Duke will advance to the final game on Monday to take on the winner of Syracuse and Denver.
After a back-and-forth first half with Duke clinging to a 1 goal lead at halftime, the Blue Devils’ offense exploded in the 3rd quarter scoring 7 straight goals and taking a 14-7 lead with 2:22 left in the quarter. Cornell would respond by scoring 7 goals spanning the end of the 3rd and into the 4th quarter to Duke’s 1, and getting within 1 goal of the Blue Devils with just over a minute to go (15-14).
But that is the closest they would get as Duke took control of the ball and scored once again on the empty netter with :38 seconds remaining to ice it for the Blue Devils. Final: Duke 16, Cornell 14
This is just the 4th time that Duke has has made it to the Championship game, and the first time since winning it all in 2010.
