Capital One Cupdate – Duke #1, ACC leads top 10

Duke There is nothing better than winning championships, especially in revenue sports like football and basketball. However if doing well in the Capital One Cup (not to be confused with the Capital One Bowl) is important to you (Hi, Big Ten fans) then ACC fans and Athletic Directors should be very pleased with the latest updated scores.

There are currently four ACC-affiliated teams in the Top 10 in the Men’s Cup (there’s got to be a better way to word that),  including the 2013 Men’s Lacrosse Champion Duke Blue Devils at #1 with 82 points. Followed by soon-to-be ACC members Louisville and Syracuse who are tied at #4 with 66 points each, and immediately followed by “those damn Catholics“, Notre Dame at#6 with 62 points.

On the Women’s side, the University of North Carolina leads all with teams with 140 points, while Duke is currently in 9th place with 55 points.

The complete standings can be found here.

To their credit, the Big Ten has good showings on both sides, with two teams tied for 2nd place in the Men’s standings (Indiana and Michigan) and Ohio State rounding out the Top-10, and Penn State in the 3rd spot on the Women’s side.

It should be noted that despite turning in a perfect season, and finishing 3rd in the AP Top 25, the Buckeyes received 0 points in the Capital One Cup standings for football. Ohio State was ineligible for the final rankings of USA Today Coaches Poll, due to NCAA sanctions from the receipt of improper benefits to their football players, which is the poll used for determining these points.
