Looking for Correspondents!

Do you like an ACC school?  Do you like writing about your ACC school?  Not sure, but want to give it a try?

The Confidential is looking for school correspondents to write about their respective school.  Send us an email to afc44enterprises@yahoo.com.

It is just for fun… unpaid, obviously.  But it is a great chance to have a voice with your school’s fan base.  Also, if you are interested in creating a portfolio of your writing ability or even having your own blog some day, not a bad incubator.  Participate in our weekly polls.

The more the merrier.  We have two Louisville bloggers, so we can have two for any school.

Football is in midseason and basketball is around the corner–plenty to write about.

ACC Recap, Weekend of October 12, 2013

Well, another interesting week in the Atlantic Coast Conference comes and goes.  The team that needed to win the most to help the conference’s standing–Clemson–pulled off the win.  Narrowly.  But let’s take a look across the ACC.

The Overall Top 20, Confidential-Style

Perhaps you have been keeping up with our ACC top 10?  As it is now October, the time has come to take a look at the overall top 20.  We like the top 20 because it reminds us of the days when there were not bowl spots for 78 teams and a trophy handed out to every participant.  Don’t like our results?  Well, there is still a lot of time for things to shake out.  The top 20 does not look too atypical.  Here you go:

Tennessee-Va Tech @ Bristol Motor Speedway in 2016?

ESPN is reporting that Tennessee and Virginia Tech have agreed to a 2016 game at Bristol Motor Speedway.  The article notes that the game could draw as many as 160,000 fans.  It is about a 2-hour drive between both schools.  As you likely know, Tennessee’s stadium seats in excess of 100,000 fans, while Virginia Tech regularly breaks the 60,000 barrier.  So that estimate makes some sense.

This continues the spirit of playing games in strange places.  We have seen hockey games in baseball stadiums and football stadiums.  We have seen college football games in baseball stadiums.  We have seen college basketball games on aircraft carriers.  Why not play a football game in a race track?   All things consider, it sounds pretty cool.  Two programs with great fan bases get to enjoy a very meaningful game.  Also, these are two football programs that routinely play tough out-of-conference games too.

It will be interesting to see about the television rights though.  Will it go to the SEC, with their network?  Will it just be an ESPN game?  Will it be a home game for the ACC?  If there was an ACC Network, it could be simulcast on both an SEC Network and ACC Network.  But, alas, there is not.  And will not be in 2016.

The Confidential’s Fantasy Football Pool Update

As you know, the Confidential began delving into fantasy football this year with a survivor pool.  Next year, we hope to do full-fledge fantasy football, college-style.  In any event, the entrants in the survivor pool are doing quite well.  So far, nobody has been eliminated yet.  With a double-elimination format, that is not surprising.  What is surprising is that only four teams have lost even one game.

But, as we move beyond cupcake city and into conference play, look for more upsets.  More updates to come…

Dabo Swinney: Courageous or Classless?

The Confidential followed this game by participating in the game day thread over at TNIIAM, the great Syracuse blog.  A big area of debate was Dabo Swinney’s decision to go for it on 4th and goal with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first half, up 35-7.  Even on the Syracuse site, there was debate as to whether it was courageous or classless.  Let’s discuss

And Then There Were Three: Florida State, Clemson, and Miami are 5-0

The ACC came into Saturday with four undefeated teams.  With two of them (Florida State and Maryland) playing, they were certain to have no more than three.  But with Miami and Clemson living up to their rankings, the ACC will finish Saturday, October 5, 2013, with the maximum number of 5-0 teams possible–three.
