Syracuse Fans: Poll re: Doug Marrone

Losing to Clemson/Florida State–Good for Your School?

An interesting thought crossed the Confidential’s mind yesterday.  Suppose your team is not a football factory.  There are several in the ACC–Syracuse, Wake Forest, Boston College, Pitt, NC State, Virginia, and Duke come to mind.  Some of those schools have done a great job upsetting Clemson and Florida State in recent years.  In the small picture, that is a great win for your team.  In the big picture, is it bad for your school?  Think about it.

Syracuse Fans: Get Off The Ledge

Syracuse looked rough tonight.  The 48-27 score was perhaps a bit misleading as it seemed as if Northwestern could have scored a lot more, had they chosen to keep throwing.  There is plenty of wailing and gnashing of teeth by Syracuse fans tonight.  But the Confidential just wants to remind Syracuse fans that they need to come in off the ledge.  There are many reasons why.

Is Boston College Back?

9-3.  10-3.  11-3.  9-5.  8-5.  7-6.  Six straight bowl games after joining the ACC.  Two ACC Championship game appearances.  Are we talking about Miami or Boston College?  Actually, we are talking about Boston College.  Since that great start to joining the ACC, however, Boston College has fallen on hard times, with those hard times “peaking” last year with a 2-10 record.  But guess who is off to a 2-0 start this year?  Boston College!  Are they back?

The ACC School Mount Rushmores: Virginia Tech FINAL

This was a tough one to finalize.  On the one hand, Michael Vick was an outstanding player–and an outstanding athlete.  On the other hand, has any player brought more negative attention to himself, criminally, short of murdering someone?  On yet one other hand, however, Michael Vick did his time, as they say.  And nobody has ever suffered a more severe punishment for animal abuse issues.  And then you have to factor in an absence of a true candidate for the fourth spot.  There are some decent athletes, but nobody with much real oomph.  So… despite his issues, the Confidential has to pick Michael Vick for the fourth spot.

The Final Virginia Tech Mount Rushmore:  Frank Beamer, Bruce Smith, Dell Curry, and Michael Vick.

The Confidential’s 2013 Football Preview

For long-time followers of the Confidential, you are familiar with our weekly polls.  This year, we will not begin our poll until after the Week 1 games.  This is something that we would like to see the major polls also do.  Watch some games before deciding 1 to 25.  But what we WILL do is provide our expectations regarding the tiers for the ACC teams (plus Notre Dame and Louisville).
