Today’s Schedule for ACC Games: January 27, 2014

Here are the meaningful games in the Atlantic Coast Conference today (January 27, 2014):

Men’s Basketball:

#18 Duke (16-4, 5-2) @ #20 Pittsburgh (18-2, 6-1).  7:00 pm.

Notes: The ACC did not do Duke any favors with this schedule.  First, a trip to Pittsburgh, one of the most difficult road environments in all of college basketball.  Second, Duke has a looming trip to the Carrier Dome to face Syracuse and its 35,000+ fans.  And both teams have better records than Duke right now.

Notes: Did anyone expect the 13-5 team that is 4-2 in conference to be Clemson?

2014 ACC Football Schedule Released…Tar Heel, Hokie, Eagle fans rejoice!

Even though it’s still basketball season, it’s NEVER too early to start thinking about football- especially if you’re the ACC. Or a fan of a disappointing basketball team. Coming off a historic season, with 2 BCS wins and a National Championship, the conference looks to keep its momentum going with an impressive  collection of conference and non-conference games this fall. Today’s release of the 2014 ACC football schedule shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Yes, the release is earlier than usual. But with more buzz surrounding the league than ever before, it’s no wonder that John Swofford wanted to pull the trigger and make some noise. And looking at the schedule, that’s exactly what the ACC has an opportunity to do.

Who ESPN “Hates”: January 22, 2014

Everywhere the Confidential goes, there is someone complaining that the ESPN hates their school, team, division, league, conference, mascot, fan base, stadium, city, favorite color, etc.  It is borderline paranoia now.  With hundreds of personalities, just because someone employed by ESPN says something that is not 100% positive relative to what you believe in or follow, it is immature to believe that ESPN hates or endorses same.  It is funny when there are 10 blogs at once stating that ESPN hates things (i.e. hates the Big 10 because it loves the SEC and hates the SEC because it loves the Big 10).

So, for fun and jest, the Confidential is going to introduce a new feature: Who ESPN hates!  The hatred as of January 22, 2014, is as follows:

Fixing What is NOT broken: NFL rule changes Pt. II

Syracuse football fans rejoice: the NFL is considering proposals that may, some day, eliminate the PAT in it’s present form. As SU fans know, special teams has been a weak spot over the past few years and the extra point is no exception.

Although the NCAA still requires teams to attempt what has become a “gimme” for most teams, the NFL is considering several proposals that would replace the PAT.  Read more…
