It is easy to count wins for coaches, but how do those wins compare to their predecessors?

Doug Marrone: 17 wins his first three seasons against 9 wins the three seasons before. That is a gain of 8 wins under Coach Marrone… the best of the group.

Ben S: In an era of fewer games, the coach who would lead Syracuse football to its only national championship would win 14 wins in his first three seasons, compared to 10 wins the three seasons before his hiring. That is a gain of 4

Coach P: Coach P had the toughest obstacle to overcome, but did so. Coach P won 26 games his first three seasons, an improvement on the 25 wins the team pulled off the prior three seasons. That is a gain of 1.
