UPDATE: Louisville to ACC in 2014 not a “done deal”?

Talk around Louisville this week has centered around University of Louisville President Dr. James Ramsey comments from a radio show recently. He was answering questions regarding the Cardinals move to the ACC. His response led to talk radio and message board panic.

Big XII Expansion Thoughts

The folk over at Frank the Tank are having fun talking about Big XII expansion scenarios.  Assuming that the Big XII wants to add two schools… and cannot steal from the ACC, SEC, B1G, or Pac-12, where does the Big XII go?  Frank the Tank lists them in order as Cincinnati, BYU, San Diego State, Central Florida, South Florida, and then Tulane.  The question for ACC fans.  Which would we like to see?  Which would we hate to see?

NCAA Reform- Conference Expansion, Division 4 and Free Agency?

It feels good to win. And why wouldn’t it? It’s exciting. It’s exhilarating. It’s motivating. But sometimes winning just doesn’t seem possible. Kansas football. Clemson basketball in the Dean Dome. The Big Ten in population growth. Hopeless causes. Or are they? Maybe they’re just a few moves away. I think the NCAA is too.

Whither West Virginia

Last night, the Confidential unwittingly entered into a Twitter-battle with a West Virginia blogger.  The Confidential noted that West Virginia had become responsible for two things lately: bad expansion rumors and bad football.  One such twitterer came to the forefront, presumably seeking to take credit for being the blogger that was the source of those rumors.  Some day, the Confidential will appear on some “show” to discuss expansion, i.e. whether this blogger had sources providing rumors that, while not coming true, were rumors that could have been true, had something not happened.  Or something like that.

But a bigger question remains… what is the deal with West Virginia?  And is the West Virginia-Big XII marriage a happy one?

Texas to the ACC?

Here we go again… A few months ago, the Confidential wrote about a future between Texas and the ACC, and just recently wrote about Texas’ questionable decision to promote Greg Robinson from “football analyst” to Defensive Coordinator (a.k.a. – Brown’s next Fall Guy).

The total ineptitude in Texas has many Longhorn bloggers and fans speculating that Deloss Dodds’ future as the Athletic Director will be ending at year’s end, while others at this point are hoping that Mack Brown will man-up and call it quits after the season.

That kind of sea change could have dramatic effects on the future of a Texas program that is watching the Aggies capture the national love-and-attention (OK…maybe just attention) while the Longhorns are entering a slippery-slope of irrelevancy.

Factor in the rumblings that the B1G has performed their due diligence on Oklahoma and Kansas, and we could be in for another round of conference realignment opening the door for Texas to the ACC.

ACC & Expansion: August Discussion~Texas

The folks over at Frank the Tank have been having some fun with expansion scenarios involving Big XII teams.   As always, it is the imperialistic Big 10 looking to find colonies (schools) in new lands (markets).  One person even posed the Texas/Oklahoma/Kansas/UConn idea.  Well, our ACC is in a battle for survival.  It is “eat” or “be eaten.”  The Confidential believes that it is the ACC that needs to have its eyes on Texas.  Any conference would be glad to have Texas, if the ACC can pull it off, it would cement the conference in the top 4.  But how to do it?

Conference Realignment- A New Division 4 Reality?

Let’s talk Division 4 football.

By now you’ve heard of it. It’s everywhere. We’ve even talked about it here. The “Power 5” conferences break away to form their own division within the NCAA structure, or even break away from the NCAA entirely (for football). But this isn’t about whether it’s a good idea, or a bad idea. It’s not about whether the players deserved to be paid, or deserve to earn more. It’s about the next step if it does happen.

Tuesday Poll: New NCAA Division

Yesterday’s news regarding the momentum behind the five major conferences forming a new division got the Confidential thinking.  On the one hand, it is obvious that there is a huge huge difference in both revenue and the ability to earn revenue.  For every Boise State that rises up to take on the SEC, there are 30 other schools at the bottom of the FBS that have to be satisfied with far less.  Something has to give.  On the other hand, while football makes some sense, what about hoops?  Would the breakaway involve that too–jeopardizing March Madness?   Let’s do a poll and find out what YOU think.  And please add your comment below.  A vote is nice, an opinion (whatever it is) gets a meaningful discussion going.

ACC Quick Hitters: July 22, 2013

Finally!  The ACC media days have come and gone–and that means one thing: FOOTBALL!   Nobody wants summer to end, but if there is one silver lining within the cloud of August around the corner, it is that the college football season follows right behind it.  Yeah, the NFL is OK too.  But college football is something else entirely.

In any event, let’s take a look at what is going on in the ACC today:
