Confidential Bracketology: March 10, 2014

Let’s have some fun projecting the NCAA’s top 4 seeds for the Big Dance.  This is based on what the Confidential thinks will happen… not going by “if the season ended today.”  Projecting out how the regular season tournaments will finish and what the committee will actually do.  We limit it to the seeded teams.

The Tar Heel Panic-o-Meter: A UNC-Duke Preview

As the final week of the regular season comes to a close, it’s time to return to our Tar Heel Panic-o-Meter one last time. When we last visited this concept back in early December, Carolina had an acceptable 4-2 record, with puzzling losses to Belmont and UAB. Inconsistency was the rule, not the exception, and wins at then #1 Michigan State and #11 Kentucky led to an 0-3 start in ACC play.

But a lot has changed since then- this isn’t the same team.

ACC Winter Meetings Recap- Revisiting the Football Divisional Format and the ACC Title Game

Happy signing day, everyone! Today is one of the most exciting days of the offseason because the future of your favorite team is ceremonially handed off to a group of twenty 17-18 year olds live on ESPN. It’s an important day, because these are the players that can make or break the next four years for your program. A good class can save a coach’s job (we’re looking at you, Mike London), or propel him to a national title in just a few short years (congrats, Jimbo Fisher).

Yesterday, we talked a little bit about one of the topics of this year’s ACC Winter Meetings, the nine game schedule. Today, we’ll briefly look at an issue that’s just as important to the future of the ACC as schedule changes and even your program’s signing class- Divisional Alignment and the ACC Title Game.

Whither the Wolfpack? The remaining schedule

So this past week was a bit of a downer for the Pack following the rout loss at UNC.  It might have been OK if it were even close, but the Pack was trounced in the first half and while the second was better, let’s face it, the Heels really didn’t have to try anymore.

Just as an exercise in getting our collective minds off that game, let’s take a look at the remaining schedule and make some predictions: Read more…

ACC Winter Meetings Recap- The Nine Game Conference Schedule

While everyone was caught up in the hype of the Super Bowl (or changing the channel and tuning into Downton Abbey instead), the ACC quietly had their winter meetings at the end of last week. On the agenda? A number of different things that could drastically shape the future of the league. Today, we talk about the return of the nine game conference schedule. Not a lot has been reported regarding the meetings, so this is only discussion and speculation right now.

2013 Tar Heel Review…2014, Looking Forward

It was an exciting year for North Carolina and not for all the right reasons. While the highs were high, the lows kept on coming. From PJ Hairston, to the return of Will Graves, the Tar Heels just couldn’t shake negative press in 2013. Yet, there were a lot of things to celebrate as well. Here’s a look at some of the best, and worst, moments of last year, and what to expect in the year to come.

ORANGE You Glad We’re Not Playing Alabama

As this college football season comes to a close, so does the Bowl Championship Series (thank goodness, bring on the playoffs). In the final season of BCS bowl games, the Clemson Tigers will make the trek down to Miami to play in the Discover Orange Bowl, their second trip in three years.  The Tigers are looking to prove the naysayer’s wrong with a win against the Ohio State Buckeyes on January 3, 2014. The theme of this year’s Orange Bowl is one of redemption.

It’s been almost a month since the Confidential looked at the current Tar Heel basketball team and not a lot has changed-

We still have no idea who this team is, or what they’re capable of.
