Virginia Tech Football: The Over/Under

This article is the next in a series of articles in which the Confidential selects the over/under for football wins in 2014.  We’ll take a cursory look at the schedule and determine what we think is the point where folks will struggle to select “over” or “under.”  We hope people will share their comments as to “why” they are going over/under.  If you disagree with our over/under choice, of course, feel free to let us know too.  The eighth team up: Virginia Tech.  We are going with an over/under of 8.5.

Here is the Virginia Tech schedule:

Likely losses: Ohio State

Likely wins:  William & Mary, East Carolina, Western Michigan, Boston College, @ Wake Forest, Virginia

Toss-ups: @ UNC, @ Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Miami, @ Duke

Virginia Tech has not quite been itself lately.  The question is whether the days of the dominant Virginia Tech are over and a new era–much like Syracuse after Donovan McNabb–is dawning.  If so, the Hokies will have to be very careful with the coaching situation.  Frank Beamer deserves to go out on his terms, a la Bobby Bowden.  Just saying.  That being said, this is a very interesting schedule.  The Hokies could win 10 games or barely eke out a bowl game.  Gotta figure they can win three of those toss-ups and get to 8-4, as they did last year.  Can they get 9 wins though?  You tell us.  The over/under is 8.5 wins.
