Louisville ACC Football Schedule/ Kevin Ware Update

For all those Cardinals fans who look at the upcoming football schedule and yawns, you should take the opportunity to take a breath. ACC Leads the Way to Omaha and the CWS

The regionals are complete and now its on to the super regionals. This is the last stop before Omaha and the College World Series.  So far there hasn’t been any real surprises this year, aka Kent State last year.  There has been only two upsets with the biggest being Oregon, who was the #8 national seed, being knocked out by Rice. The other is Virginia Tech being knocked out by Oklahoma. Top national seed North Carolina was taken to extra innings by Fla Atlantic in an elimination game but other than that it has been chalk.

The ACC will have their four remaining teams play host in the super regionals while Louisville, a future ACC member, has also earned a spot. The SEC also has four teams remaining but only two of them will be hosting. The Big 12 and the Pac 12 each has two teams remaining. The next round of games will be a beast of three series which will run from Friday, June 7 until Monday, June 10.

Here is a run down on the super regionals.

Duke There is nothing better than winning championships, especially in revenue sports like football and basketball. However if doing well in the Capital One Cup (not to be confused with the Capital One Bowl) is important to you (Hi, Big Ten fans) then ACC fans and Athletic Directors should be very pleased with the latest updated scores. Who Has Basketball’s Best Fan Base?

There are a lot of college basketball fans out there. There is no denying that Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky have large and crazy fan bases–but who has the best? There are several ways you can attempt to answer this question and not be wrong.

The Emory Sports Marketing Analytics released their top 10 list based on “fan equity.”  Number one on their list may come as a surprise to some, but not me, is Louisville. The ACC unsurprisingly leads the list with four teams in the top ten. Duke is third, North Carolina is fifth and Syracuse is eighth. What are your thoughts on the list?

The Rutgers Dumpster Fire Continues Unabated…

The Confidential is about the ACC.  The ACC is in competition with the Big 10.  Rutgers is now part of the Big 10.  So we are justified at laughing at the follies of the Big 10 and Rutgers.   But, even if we were not justified, schadenfreude is our weakness.  We have made fun of Rutgers (a fine University, we must note) in the past and we will continue to do so.  Heck, we’ll defend Rutgers, where appropriate.  For today, let’s all take a moment to roast some marshmallows over  the Rutgers’ dumpster fire.

Capital One Cup Standings Update

What is the goal of an athletic director at one of the schools in the top several conferences?  Is it to win national championships in the revenue sports?  Is it to make consistently good showings in the revenue sports?  Or is it to have a broad array of athletes participating in non-revenue sports?  Well, the Big 10 folks like to talk about how it is the latter.  So what if they are not winning national championships, they are offering teams in skee-ball and hula hoops.  And all that leads to success in the Capital One Cup.

Or does it?

Detroit Lions adding a new bowl; ACC in the mix

It looks like the Big Ten Conference may finally get North Carolina and Virginia after all… but not as conference mates.

A few weeks back, The Confidential reviewed the future ACC bowl lineup. With four more teams entering the league, it was believed that the league might increase its bowl affiliations to nine or 10.

Brett McMurphy of ESPN is reporting that the Detroit Lions are looking to replace the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl after this season and operate a new bowl game at Ford Field starting in 2014.

The bowl will still feature a team from the Big Ten, but is expected to have an opponent from the ACC.
